Description:

This one-day workshop provides participants with skills needed to work directly with emotions in individuals with eating disorders. The workshop will cover basic Emotion-Focused Therapy principles and how they can be used with individuals with eating disorders to help clients move away from focus on food, diet, and eating disorder behaviors to the deeper emotions that drive the behaviors. This can lead to lasting change, so the eating disorder is no longer needed to numb, soothe, and cope with painful emotions.

Use of the two-chair dialogue for self-criticism in the treatment of eating disorders will be a focus as this task is beneficial in helping clients move away from diet/weight talk and focus on underlying emotions. Relevant video demonstrations will be used to reinforce concepts presented in the workshop so participants leave the workshop with a skill they can immediately apply in their work with individuals with eating disorders.
